pp108 : Defining an Organization Model

Defining an Organization Model

This topic describes the procedure to define an organization model.

You can define an organization model using the various organization model constructs. Each construct is represented by an icon that is available on the Organization Modeler toolbox. The following steps describe the procedure to define an Organization Model:

  1. Select a starting point and select (Organization Model) to open an existing organization model. The organization model appears in the modeling environment.
  2. To draw a model, drag one of the available organization units from your project content tree to the modeling environment. An organization unit box is created.
Note: There can be icons from different organization unit types in the toolbox. At organization unit type level, you can define the color from the organization unit . Alternatively, right-click an organization unit and select Properties to define the color.
  3. Drag from the toolbox to create a sub-organization model. To view the toolbox after it is closed, click (Options) and select Toolbox. To quickly associate an organization with another document such as a Role, click the Insert tab and select the desired document. Alternatively, click the Workspace Explorer tab in the modeler and drag-drop the required role on to an organization unit. The sub-organization model is drawn.
  4. To create a connector (relationship) between two organization units, click the parent unit so that it is in focus. Click organization relationship and click on the dependent organization unit to draw the connection.
  5. To create an informal relationship connector between two organization units, click the parent unit, drag the informal relationship icon from the toolbar on the target organization unit and create the informal relationship.
    Note:
Informal relationships are not formal relationships as direct hierarchical relationship. Generally, organization units can be created through drag and drop from the project content tree: drag an existing organization unit from the project content tree on the drawing pane. Alternatively, drag an Organization Unit Type to create a new Organization Unit.
  6. Drag the (Assistant Unit) organization unit type icon from the toolbox to the drawing pane.
  7. Drag the (Independent Organization Unit) type icon from the toolbox to the drawing pane. You can now draw an independent or virtual organization unit.
  8. Use the below options to add an annotation to the organization model or to a construct in the model.
    1. Drag (Text) to the organization model to add an annotation that comprises a border and a background color.
    2. Drag (Text Annotation) to a construct to add an annotation that can be linked to a construct.
    3. Drag (Transparent Text) to the organization model to add a transparent annotation.
  9. Note:
To set the properties of an annotation, right-click it and select Properties to open the property sheet of the annotation, and set the text to be displayed and the font size of the text.

An annotation is added to your organization model.

  10. Click to save the organization model.

The organization model is now defined.

After you complete this task:
Publish the organization model structure.
